Tips and tricks for your upcoming session
Kids can be unpredictable
If your kid isn’t listening/crying, it’s best not to really force anything. Sometimes bribing does help (especially since this is a mini). But it’s best to go into this and making them feel like it’s going to be fun!
For Dads -
This is for Dads. Don’t be afraid to play! After we get a few post photos looking at the camera, I will obviously direct you, but you can lift your child up in the air. Give them a little kiss on the cheek, spin them around or give a little tickle! If Mom is is giving a kid a hug, look at her and don’t look at the camera. Sometimes pretend that I’m not here! Moms you can do this too or don’t be afraid to cuddle! When in doubt, give a hug.
base this one on your gut and how much you know your toddler
If you have a toddler in the car, I recommend not letting them nap in the car! Sometimes they can wake up very angry this late in the evening. I witness this a handful of times. Try to distract them or be in the back with them to prevent them from falling asleep.
If it's a long drive, I recommend arriving early to make sure they aren't hungry or super tired after waking them from the car ride.
Last Tip!
To wrap everything up - don’t yell or get upset with your kids. Children can feel your energy and if you’re stressed out, they will be stressed out! If your child isn’t behaving, it’s best just a smile and laugh it off and enjoy the reality of your crazy beautiful life.
One of my favorite photos is when me and my husband were laughing and my toddler was screaming into the camera making it seem like it was the worst experience in the world. It was my reality then and that’s why I think I love the photo.
